What is a veneer?

A veneer is a thin, permanent custom tooth covering. It is typically made of either a composite resin or porcelain and used to cover damage, discolouration, gaps and/or asymmetries.

Pros

  • Long lasting (can last over a decade)

  • Strong and durable (made of porcelain, similar to crowns)

  • Restore damaged teeth

  • Tooth looks fresh and new (covers up stains, cracks, chips, misalignments, etc.)

  • Get results quickly (simpler than crowns and implants)

Cons

  • Requires grinding down a portion of your tooth (can create a sensitivity)

  • While durable, can chip or crack (from a strong enough force)

  • Can be expensive (vs teeth whitening)

What is the veneer process?

1. Prepare Tooth

The tooth is prepared for the veneer, this includes shaping and grinding the tooth down where necessary

2. Take Mold

A mold is taken of the prepared tooth and it is sent to the lab to prepare the veneer

3. Get Veneer

The custom veneer is received and inspected prior to installation

4. Place Veneer

The custom veneer is placed on the tooth and carefully cemented in place
